That's not all that far from Paul - around 18km or so.  And right in the
heart of Paul Keating territory too, I notice.  :)

I'm almost certain that it is -10dBm, and that Austel modems can (or
should) only be set higher than that in leased-line mode.  If the NetComm
allows you to set -9dBm in dial-up mode, it breaches the Austel regs. 
Wonder if that leaves them open to a $12,000 fine, and confiscation of
their marble staircase?  :)
