Lemke gets $2 Million Deal
ATLANTA (AP) - Mark Lemke, who accepted the Atlanta Braves' salary
arbitration offer earlier in the week, agreed Friday to a $2 million,
one-year contract, a raise of $500,000.
Lemke, 31, started 132 games at second base last season and hit .255 with
five homers and 37 RBIs. He was the only Braves player to start during all
of the last five postseasons.
The Braves had placed left-hander Ben VanRyn on unconditional release
waivers to make room for Lemke.
Atlanta also signed outfielder Hensley Muelens to a minor-league contract
and invited him to spring training. Muelins, who plays first and third base,
played in Japan for the past three season. He hit .246 this season for the
Yakult Swallows of the Central League with 25 homers and 67 RBIs.
