That's a close enough analogy, Chris.
CG>SP> Chris, that is one reason I really like the soil block system. The
CG>challenge. However, since I bought myself a pot of rooting

There's plenty of challenge in soil blocks. There's the mixture, which
varies from seedling to mature plant, from inorganic to organic. Then
there are the containers , the problem of getting sufficient light to
each seedling/cutting, watering, etc. And one thing, you can
transplant two sizes of seedlings (keeping them out of the soil till
they are huge plants in 4" blocks), which gives you an ace in the hole
if the weather turns nasty at planting time. Of course, any time the
seedling has 4 or more leaves, it can also be transplanted into
regular pots with a minimum of fuss.
You really want a challenge? Try transplanting seedlings as soon as
their arch straightens up and seed leaves pop out, into 2" square soil
blocks. (Idiots like me sometimes do this with heat-lovers that shiver
in soil blocks due to tremendous evaporation in a warm area -like the
top of my fridge - yet mould if I try to slow down evaporation inside
plastic cake trays. Older seedlings with well-developed roots are
tricky to insert in a block; so you can make life as challenging as
you need. :-)
