HL>So all we have to do is find our food allergies, eat right, take
HL>vitamins, and our alcoholism will disappear?
Nope. But, the chances of relapse will go way down. I have a post in
here to another person with the paper I found in an Alano Club in
Seattle well before 1982 when I left for Alaska. It is on dry drunks
being linked to allergies and I quote the statistics known at that time.
The chances of recovery more than doubled at that time when a remedial
diet was used along with treatment and A.A. Today we could kick that
figure up from the 81.3% in the paper I have in front of me into the
90's% if proper nutritional counseling were done in treatment.
The reason it isn't is first of all the massive denial system of the
recovering alcoholic who won't buckle down and do some very hard work
until he or she is convinced it is necessary. Then second, most
counselors do not have the medical background necessary to understand
the information that needs to be presented.
And, if no one mentions the facts connected with the need for diet, then
the alcoholic remains ignorant of any need to change.
We can also pick kids out at birth or even before who are at risk for
alcoholism by testing their genetic makeup. If a remedial diet is
started then, the chances of the kid getting into drugs and alcohol
later in life is much less than if no remedial diet is given the kid.
We routinely test infants in hospitals for PKU when they are born, and
the very small percentage of kids who test postive are put on a diet to
prevent mental retardation.
It is possible to reverse some of the problems a child is born with in
the first two years of the kids' life with the proper diet.
There are a lot more kids born with the DNA that is a precursor for
alcoholism and drug abuse.
