| subject: | Dumb Yank Commercials |
G'day Bob, GG>> bunch of the stuffed animals towards the camera. I just wanna GG>> hear what the Oz version is dubbed to say at the end. BL> BL> He, he, he. There was a time when all commercials shown on BL> Australian TV had to be made in Australia, but now they just dub the BL> yank versions. Someone is going to make an awful mistake one day... BL> and I look forward to it. That was something that took me by surprise last year... the same commercials with the same people... but they'd mysteriously acquired Ozzie accents. Oh, and words too. Robitussin's "Mum knows best" commercials in particular. GG>> I've never been into sports, but went through a time in high GG>> school where basketball interested me. At the time, Magic was GG>> playing for Michigan State, and I recall watching him when he GG>> was "going to be someone". At the time, he was just a good GG>> college basketball player. He doesn't have AIDS though, he just GG>> has (or had) the HIV virus. If he had developed AIDS when he GG>> was diagnosed with the virus, he'd be dead by now. BL> BL> At last count there were 10 million people with AIDS and 10 of BL> them did not convert. The average lifespan is 5 years, clowy Did not convert ?? To what, Judaism? ;-) BL> improving towards 20 years. He could be lucky if he is really Magic, BL> but I would not give him a snowball's chance in hell of seeing the BL> year 2000. The only ones who (or had) HIV are the dead ones. I'd bet, but it seems sick, twisted and morbid to bet on anyones life besides my own, and in 10 days, I'll be doing that whilst on my way home. I hate flying. GG>> OR..... just like Michael Jackson can buy a way to get married GG>> in Sydney without the 30 day wait, the world has also witnessed GG>> what else money can buy that others can't. BL> BL> I saw an interesting figure for medical research in the USA. On a BL> "per-death" basis, the USA spends $37,000 on AIDS $3,000 on cancer BL> and $1,000 on heart disease. You can see where the money (and the BL> Media) is in the USA... all prancing about like Michael's minkey. Could be. Dunno where your figures are from but as I understand "medical research" dollars, the gov't only supplies so much but more and more of this is funded from other sources. (Not sure if this is good, bad or otherwise, actually). Cheers, Gaelyne ... QWKRR128 V5.0B [F] --- QWK Mail / Lora v2.40b2+* Origin: Whinging pigs and flying techs, oh my!!
