You know Thees, it didn't always used to be that way. I remember when the
NT vendors didn't differentiate between server or workstation for things
like backup software.. greedy bastards are never happy, instead of putting
out a good product at a good price they make damn good money then hire some
mba who want's to maximize profits by sticking it to the customers any way
they can. The problem is we allow the vendor too much control over how the
product is used.
I mean think about this for a second. I understand the difference between a
consumer and an industrial microwave oven but what's the difference between
backup software for a 10 user workstation or a 10 user server? Its not like
there is a performance difference between versions or anything that would
really add production costs and justify a higher price. The server version
doesn't even come with the modules you need to backup a typical server,
those are extra..
I seriously hope linux makes the desktop soon, the public software aspect
of it will really shake up the market.
