JV> There must be different types that we didn't know about. My
JV> mother bought an expensive one at a nursery about 10 years ago.
JV> It grows VERY slowly, and looks like a small fruit tree. It

JV> My aunt over on the west coast, has a Crepe Myrtle she bought
JV> at a flea market for about $2. The thing grows like a weed,
JV> sort of like a forsythia. Every year, she cuts it way back, and
JV> it grows back lusher than before.
I don't really know too much about Crepe Myrtle. I just know
that they look similar to lilacs...from a distance at least. I
also have heard they are pretty susceptible to powery mildew, but
they have newer varieties without that problem. That's about my
extent of knowledge on them.
JV> Massachusetts had it's share of flowering plants tho, Dogwood,
JV> Forsythia, Rhododendron.... I had some really big rhododendrons.
JV> They looked like huge purple snowballs when they flowered.
I'm mostly from Pennsylvania, at least that where I grew up. I
love dogwood. I remember Forsythia but it was never a favorite of
mine. I like apple blossoms they're very pretty too. Been a long
time since I've seen any of those plants, been in FL since '67.
