RC>nm> 1) With someone whom you know also has a 56K modem are you
RC>nm> getting a lot of 56k connects? and
RC>That will depend very much on the telephone system. Also, you can't
RC>call just anyone with a 56K modem. You have to call a location that
RC>has a digital connection to the telco and is running a 56K host
RC>modem.
RC>NM> 2) What kind of cps? and
RC>Again, it depends. One user I know had about 5500cps throughput on a
RC>zipped file.
RC>NM> 3) Are you having any regular glitches?
RC>The most common "glitch" is "too many CODECS in circuit", which means
RC>you _can't_ connect at 56K at all.
RC>NM> For all above please identify brand.
RC>There is only one 56K capable brand released at the moment: the USR
RC>Courier using X2 technology. X2 for the Sportsters will be available
RC>soon.
Not completely true. You can now buy Practical Peripherals and
Sportster 56K modems that support X2. You just can't *yet* upgrade an
already purchased Sportster 28.8 or 33.6 modem to X2.
