JWM>Saw this and thought I'd pass on some info that I discovered. Like you
(an
JWM>probably most everyone else) I would have faced the same problem if the
JWM>electricity went off for an extended period of time during the winter.
But
JWM>I have discovered that there is a possible alternative to the problem.
JWM>There are now on the market a new type of add-on gas fireplaces (natural
ga
JWM>and propane) that burn with such high efficiency (greater than 99%) that
JWM>they do not even need to be vented to the outside. I've checked around
her
JWM>and they sell for between $300-500, depending on how fancy an
nstallation
JWM>you want (free standing-built in-flat to the wall or corner with nice
JWM>mantles, etc.). One would be enough to heat a decent sized room and help
JWM>avoid the danger of anyone freezing to death.
We've seen these around for a couple years now, and we have been trying
to figure out how to fit one into our small living room. I'd prefer to
have a fireplace as the focal point in there, rather than a TV
entertainment center anyway, and the winter power outage possibility now
gives us another reason to get one! (Now, all we need is the $$$! )
