Hi Russell,
I think my little explaination stired the halls of power in this
board (Hi. Artie) as I'm now having to use my other QWKRR to do this
reply (reg. to my name not my handle).
How's your 65 going? No probs. I hope?
RA> > It has the Real Time Clock option which brought the price all up
RA> Useful?
^^^^^ So far its as usefull as time and date stamping on GEOS, I
haven't got right into that yet. But on the other hand QWKRR sets up
straight away with the RTC and so does GEOS and Gateway. That about my
limits at the moment although I do sometimes check when a file was DLd
or transferred to a disk.
RA> Are you happy with it?
Yes, so far. I do have a prob. with the transformer slipping out of
the plug or the like. Its the rotten euro. connector, it doesn't like
hanging vertically from the bower board.
RA> That's a pretty reasonable attitude! Can
RA> you create subdirectories on the
RA> thing? Does most/all software handle it?
Yes and Yes, Disks can be formatted as 1581 and have subdirectories or
they can be formatted in Native mode (much like Ramlink) and have
emulaton partitions (1581 with subs. 1571,1541) or native. Depending
on the type disk you can have any combination of the above.
As for software, any progs. that make direct calls to undoc. drive rom
routines etc probably won't work and heavily protected software maybe
not also. There is a list of progs. that do work and it is mentioned
that it is not the definitive list. Also it claims to be 'more
compatable with commercial productivity software than the 1581' because
it can 'emulate the exact track and sector layout of 1541 and 1571
disks'
BTW how long did Grapevine take to send the 65 to you? I ordered a REU
and after over a month it was still sitting on the desk of the person
who does the airmails. Although it only took 10 days to get here after
y second call. I'll tell you one thing their name doesn't reflect
their speed of delivery (nothing like how a rumor travels on a
Grapevine).
Cheers.
Reece.
... Brainstorm? No. Just slightly overcast.
