 I had the same problem.  I cheated though and peeked at and swiped
 someone elses source from their page.  The version I use sets the
 background colour (for those not using graphics), link, and viewed
 links plus the background gif.  Here's one from my personal page:

If you need something to set the text, link and viewed link colours, I

I tried it without the other junk, but this seems to work all the
time.  Also, this should be used AFTER the   commands
since you're setting the body up.  Else it may not work.
