DM> Yes "you think" but that is not enough. Large segments of "nature's
DM> children" have need of emotionally warm anchors (not exactly
DM> overflowing from stoicism).
I think that's a misunderstanding of the Stoic philosophers Dave.
They warned that parentage was a considerable responsibility, and
that most folks were not up to doing a good job. None of this be
fruitful and multiply crap. They were not interested in having a
lot more citizens, but having a lot better ones.
They actually were *not* unemotional; rather, they were aware the
emotions affect thinking, and to be cognizant of that, and to act
in the right way regardless; a child needs a warm anchor, and the
Stoic parent would be expected to provide it. Anger and love are
both teaching tools, and both were to be employed.
They advised staying out of politics; success brings sychophancy,
and failure brings frustration. When in enemy hands, one is told
to not try to withstand torture, but tell them whatever you think
it is they want to hear at once. Having a reputation for this is
a good way to prevent torture in the first place. Stoic?
DM> My question- Does the pomegranate (seeds) hold some special
DM> mythical or plant life meaning beyond the simple (food of the
DM> dead). I know that hidden meanings are often draped in symbology.
My sources and memory don't suggest much either Dave. Generally,
I see mythic attributes pre-dating literate times, and inasmuch
as the Archaic Greeks came from the North, where the pomegranate
did not grow, I suspect that the original mythic meaning was not
for the pomegranate, but some similar item.
