Thanks, Stephen, but I am going to go the KISS approach (Keep it simple, stu*id).
ie: that may be ok for eCS, but I am not prepared to pay the price of trying it in 
my W98 partition.  All it cost is a NIC driver change in MPTS and a reboot.
That's KISS for me.
