Hi, James! Recently you wrote in a message to Ardith Hinton:

JB> I guess I learnt alliteration better than anything
JB> from the language.

Of course! You're a musician. Drummers are musicians too.... ;-)

AH> I have a natural tendency to cut through the B.S. &

JB> And we wonder why people get so defencive? "Hell, if
JB> you could only see yourself as others see you..." (EG:
JB> Look in the mirror, FOOL!)

JB> "Quit digging in your heals, just because you - in that
JB> person - is what you hate the most about yourself?"

Yes, I think that is often the case. Years ago a mother told me
she & her son... who was a toddler at time... weren't getting along
very well. It was a complete mystery to her, but not to me. I didn't have
the heart to tell her I thought it was because they were too much alike....
 :-)

JB> This is the shorthand that I feel only the self effacing
JB> human can comprehend, and it's not as common a trait as
JB> I would like.

As Bernie Siegel commented, many people would rather send a man
to the moon than look inside their own heads! I agree with him that the
effort is well worth while. But it's hard work, and they may not like all
they see there. :-)

JB> I don't suggest a person should flails them self 24x7,
JB> but cripes, KNOW YOUR FOIBLES, even *if* you're not
JB> prepared to do anything about it!

Makes sense to me. If you don't consciously realize what you're
doing & why, you can't make an informed decision about how to
proceed.... :-)

JB> I guess the world is still turning, and everything is
JB> as it should be.

DESIDERATA... "No doubt the universe is unfolding as it
should." :-))

AH> I kept quiet when a certain person asked elsewhere why
AH> others are so stupid, ignorant, and thoughtless

JB> LOL! "Why is everyone but me crazy?"

I guess such comments are supposed to impress upon me how
intelligent, well-informed & thoughtful the speaker is. They don't. I
did notice how easily this person was able to divert attention, however,
from other people's concerns! I'm delighted to help those who are ready,
willing & able to examine questions I think might lead to some
interesting discussion. But I'm only human, and I need to talk to people
who will make an effort to understand my concerns too.... :-/

JB> I need to shut up, and you start me in on these topics!

I'm delighted to hear it... [chuckle].

JB> I'll bump into a wall enough times, that random events
JB> alone lets me stumble into the right course of action.
JB> Then, I realize I didn't take notes of how I achieved
JB> that success. (Yes, back to my LR 'puter.)

So... you may need to remind yourself to take notes! Trial &
error is a legitimate way to learn. I read somewhere that people who feel
they have some control of their own destiny are mentally healthier than
people... including the recidivists, perhaps?... who feel like victims of
chance. Seems to me you're on the right track when you recognize a success
& try to do the same again.... :-)
