SRG> MD> Can we go back to discussing music yet?
                                        ^^^^^
SRG> GE> OK.
SRG> SRG> you say "OK" and then totally fail to "discuss" ?????
SRG> GE> You didn't ask any questions about music. You asked about
usicians
SRG> GE> That's related to music, but it's still something different.
SRG> Sooooo where did you get the idea that we ONLY wanted to talk about the

SRG> and not the people who MAKE the music?
You are the one who asked if we could get back to discussing the music.
(see above). Given that I was discussing music in the first place, and
catching heat because the music I thought sounded like Prog-Rock wasn't
recorded by musicians you regard as qualified to make Prog-Rock, I
thought it best to limit my comments to talking about MUSIC, not fan
club issues. If I wanted to talk about fan club stuff, I'd go to the
Tiger Beat echo.
SRG> Have you heard the Great Deceiver Box set yet? If not it is a definite
u
SRG> have for Crimso fans. Some incredible live moments.
No, I have not heard it yet. I am reluctant to fork over cash for
something I haven't heard, so until I hear someone else's copy, I don't
plan to buy my own.
SRG> MD> Are you going to go see the reformed Yes on tour this summer?
SRG> GE> No.
SRG> SRG> WHY NOT?
SRG> GE> Because they aren't scheduled to appear at a venue that is within
SRG> GE> close geographic proximity to where I am. And besides, I thought
o
SRG> GE> wanted to discuss music, not musicians.
SRG> Ummmmmmmmmmm pardon me for living, but aren't these musicians going to
A
SRG> MUSIC while they are touring?????
Of course they are, but you didn't ask about that. You asked if I was
going to SEE them. As to their making music, I've been disappointed at
too many live concerts of Prog-Rock artists to get real enthused about
experiencing them in person. Your basic three-chord headbanger bands
sound about the same in stage as in the studio. Progressive artists seem
to have a more difficult time replicating studio overdubs and effects on
stage.
SRG> GE> Because too many of the people who made up Gentle Giant have
etire
SRG> GE> from music. But what does that have to do with discussing the
SIC
SRG> SO what's to stop them from re-forming? There have been plenty of
rtists
SRG> have come out of seclusion in the last 10 years to produce another
bum.
Unfortunately, there hasn't been too much good music produced by artists
who've been in seclusion for a decade.
SRG> Having just seen Annie Haslam live up close and personal at Club Bene in
SRG> Jersey, I can say that I'm surprised I never tried out anything by them

SRG> The show was incredible. It would be interesting to see what a joint
ffo
SRG> could produce.
Their (Renaisance's) "Live at Carnegie Hall" album is very good --
almost to a "greatest hits" compilation. Also, it's an exception to my
assertion that Prog-Rockers are better in the studio than on stage,
though Renasiance did have the services of a full orchestra on the
album.
SRG> Jon Anderson's vocals are IMHO one of the many reasons I like Yes so
uch
SRG> because they added a quality to the tonal pallette that you rarely hear.
SRG> would definitely not be the same without him.
I agree that his nasal tenor is a tonal color one rarely hears. And Yes
would not be Yes without his "unique" voice. However, I find his voice
only slightly less annoying than chalk squeaking on a blackboard, which
is also a unique, rarely heard sound.
