PE> There was no poor reputation on the M34F. Really?. The first Rev of the M34F's with the 04BC chipset were unspeakable dogs. JL>> For all the time you had the USR online, I never had an ounce of trouble JL>> connecting. Never once did I get a non-EC connect at DTE rates greater JL>> than 9600bps, yet link rates at V.34 remained consistently higher with the JL>> USR than with any other V.34 modem you've had online. Autobauding JL>> anomolies aside, the USR has been the best performing modem you've had JL>> online. PE> Yes, you are down as one of the people who had no problems. David PE> Begley is down as one of the ones who did have problems. So is PE> Rod Speed. How many problems have you had with my Netcomm M34F? PE> None that you've reported, that's for sure. That's not the point. Other users are experiencing more problems with the M34F than with any other V.34 modem you've had online. BTW, I don't report on trivial modem problems - they are to be expected at times and cannot normally be isolated as being the fault of one particular modem. JL>> From memory, when you last had the Spirit Viper online I had a pretty JL>> uneventful time - the generic Rockwell modem I was using (with the buggy JL>> "04BC" DP) was quite happy negotiating with the Viper but was far from JL>> ideal since the buggy Rockwell had retrains permanently disabled. Needless JL>> to say, I ditched the Rockwell and bought a V.34 Lifestyle a short time JL>> later. PE> Are you talking about 1 year ago when I had the Viper online for PE> 2 days? Yeah, during that short period. PE> At this point, I would like to have something better than my PE> Spirit II. Have you tried a Hayes Optima? Or perhaps you might want to try a Motorola LifeStyle or its flash-rom cousin the Avtek 28.8k?. The LifeStyle is a robust performing v.34 modem with generally solid v.34 connects. The modem is v.34 compliant with support for asymmetrical bit rates, has fast v.42 negotiation capability, Inbuilt security modes, and is driven by a beefy 24-bit MC68356 RISC processor. The only caveats with the modem are a lack of VFC and Class 2 fax support - since I don't use either of these it's no major loss. Cost me $435 - not bad for a non-rockwell chipset modem. JL>> BTW, What modem did you have online at approx 12:30PM ~ 27/02/96?. I JL>> couldn't obtain an EC connect at all with your modem and hence had to JL>> resort to a forced V.22bis/NO-EC link. Any ideas? PE> Spirit Viper. Definitely. BFN. Paul. The only major problem I've had so far in connecting with one of your modems. I would classify that situation as being typical of line impairment.
