Well, as pre-announce yesterday, we put my grandfather's catboat in the
water today. We headed down to Sodus Bay at about 9am. We got there, and my
grandfathers friend was waiting to help us. We got everything read(we raised
the mast, etc.), and then we found out that a pulley at the TOP of the mast
was on wrong. :( We decided to raise my dad up to the top(it was that or me,
and he knew exactly what to do). We harnessed him in, and raised him up.
Only,
we couldn't raise him up high enough(we were lifting him from a lower down
pulley).. :( We brought him down, and were getting ready to take the mast
down, when my grandfather had the ingenious idea of just attaching fishing
line(15 pound test) to the line, and run it through where the line is
supposed
to go, and then re-do the ropes, and bring it back up with the fishing line.
:) We did it, and everything else went just right. :) We went to lunch, and
went back to the mooring to take the boat for a spin. We took it out for one
tack across the bay, and then came right back in. We had to get to a picnic,
so we couldn't stay out long-- we just wanted to make sure everything was
setup right, by taking it for a test run. :) Well, that's pretty much it.
Now,
my grandfather and I will probably go out at least once a week... :) That
will
be fun... :) I have found that tacking is probably the COOLEST natural
thing(excluding air conditioners, etc.) you can do on a hot day. :)
