If one of the mail services crashed, it could leave the box and index out
of sync (index says there is email in the empty box) and I've seen all
sorts of weird problems like that. Also if there was an email but it
doesn't begin with "Received:" some clients will just up and die
while others will still pull it in. I find eudora 1.54 very good at getting
emails that other clients choke on because it doesn't separate out the
headers so munged headers don't bother it.
