| subject: | IGM`s on Linux |
Hello Donald. Well, I haven't had as much time as I'd like to have played with PawnShop and GemTrader. But I have come to the following conclusion, "don't fiddle with the IGM files from Linux" the Linux tools, editors etc, might be nicer, than DOS'es "edit", but don't be tempted. UMASK for the dosemu directories must be 007. You can delete files from Linux, but don't create files or directories or files on the DOS file tree, that are used by the IGM's and LORD. You want to change something, start dosemu, do what you want then exit. And don't ask me why, I cannot find what is diferent to cause this, but well ... So far, I have not noticed any anomalies with the IGM's, including Violets Cottage II. Have installed HITS, but have only used it once, and got "killed" for my troubles, might have been different if I had a fairy along. :-) LORD 4.07, is unstable, ie. entering the forest more often than not locks up the session solid, no timeout nothing. Lord 3.55 and 4.06 seem to work well enough here. Tend to get more forest events in 3.55, than in 4.06, but that is likely due to attempts to make the game more challenging/difficult. Have noticed places where the first letter on a line goes "missing", but want to think about this a bit more, and sometime the screen refresh, does not act like it should, usually the old screen, is not cleared/reset, usually when a "full" screen is replaced with a "half" screen. Want to test this on my WIN box, but it's monitor has died, and I don't have the finance available to buy a replacement, new or second hand, not just yet, any how. Also want to change a few things and see how these affect my DOS doors if at all.
