CS> Most fans of metal seem to have tunnel vision. They tend to think that
a
CS> song must have heavy shredding riffs with "killer" fast leads. By the e
nd
CS> of
CS> the 80s and earlier 90s everything started to become generic - same old
CS> thing
CS> time and time again without any major changes. Variety (along with
CS> experimentation) is the spice of life as the saying goes.
Exactly. One artist said "They hate you if you change, and they hate you if
you
stay the same." I think it was Eddie van Halen that said that.
CS> Metal
CS> has lost its meaning - now the catagory is too broad. Bands that put ou
t
CS> heavy metal albums in the past are far from that label now. Metallica a
nd
CS> now Megadeth (with Cryptic Writings) sound unlike anything they previous
ly
CS> were.
A lot of terms like that have lost meaning. BTW, can anyone define
alternative?
CS>
CS> Load is definitely a great albums. I have only one peeves about it: La
r's
CS> overuse of the 'splash' symbal on a couple of songs. But thats about it
.
CS>
A lot of drummers have that problem.
CS> Hetfield was, (I dont know if you know this or not), really into country
CS> music
CS> at the time Load was being conceived. He had to write something that
CS> reflexed this: Mama Said. Not my favourite song in the world, but if
CS> you're
CS> into country then maybe..
CS>
I don't know about country, but I heard Hetfield was really heavy into
Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers, and Aerosmith. Kirk Hammett shows alot of
Hendrix influence. BTW, that wasn't a steel in "Mama Said". That was a guita
r
w/ a B-string bender. I saw the tab in Wolf Marshall's Guitar One.
