MEG UMANS was thinking about FDA Acts and keyed into cyberspace:
MU>-> dead in the L-tryptophan fiasco and that there have been 18 deaths
MU>-> and
MU>Fiasco is a good description: it was a one-time event. The batch of
MU>tryptophan that caused damage and death was manufactured in a
MU>facility (in Japan) whose machinery was contaminated during the
MU>manufacture of that batch. The people harmed by taking it (my sister
MU>was one of them) who survived, and some of the survivors of the dead,
MU>wrote to the FDA to protest the removal of tryptophan from the open
MU>market. It wasn't tryptophan that did the damage: it was
MU>contamination.
It wasn't contamination. It was blind faith in an "oriental" product
where there was little, if any, quality control.
Did you get to read the story early this year about the Chinese herbal
medicine that was widely distributed in China that was laced with HIV?
