subject: Opera v7.2 browser

All this talk about browsers was the motivation I needed to add
Opera to my W2K system. :-)

On my DOS and W31 systems Opera v3.62 is 'alive and well' and
the fastest most-often used GUI browser I have. Version 7.2 of
Opera for 32bit systems is no disappointment, quite the
contrary.

Installed Opera v7.2 weighs in at 14.4 meg here on my NTFSv5
formatted W2K partition with IEx v6 at 15.7 meg and Mozilla
v1.3 at 26.7 meg installed I would have to say Opera is the
obvious 'winner' when size of the install is a consideration.

I did download the 12.8 meg 'JAVA' version but the install said
I had to have SP2 to use it so I declined and did not install
it. Do I care? NO!

Speed is no contest with Opera beating all of the other GUI
browsers for Windows and with the popular 'tabbed' windows and
other refinements including, blocking of popups, skins, email
access, newsgroups, built-in search, zooming of entire windows,
and others I don't see anything Mozilla is 'working on' as very
impressive.

btw: Opera v7.2 _does_ play background MIDI music at webpages
that use it. :-)

The free version does have a banner ad at the top but it's not
as annoying as many have described and at $39 US I would
consider Opera a bargain if the banner is just more than a
person can tolerate?

I know it's not 'opensource' but this is the TECH echo, not the
'Linux TECH' echo and I really don't care.
