I'm using the latest port of EMX here, and although I find it to be a
decent compiler, I'm no makefile wizard.  :-)  For anything serious, I
generally use Watcom 10.6...

Also, I find that there are many hurdles not related to C/C++ when learning
EMX that may make it "not the best" platform for learning
C/C++... such as makefiles, directory structures, gdb (gnu debug), etc. 
OTOH, if you have the spare time to learn, but not the money, its price
can't be beat.  :-)
