We are using something called SoftCall, which takes about half the space of
.WAV, which is what we were using before.   Being this age is great,
it doesn't bother me a bit to admit I can't remember the file extension it
makes!!!   

Also the data passed to my stored procedure consists of one-byte
characters, not Unicode; we did this on purpose.

An average recording is 1.5 - 2 MB and there are about 1000 of them per
week.   (I have a little under 500 users for this app.)   Somewhere at
work I wrote down how long the average call lasts but I don't remember
now... but I think it's several minutes.
