Hi Marilyn, if you don't opt for the railroad tracks (:-)), pick an
area with a bit of afternoon shade (yes, I know they take full sun in
northern climes), and mulch heavily with seaweed after planting the
roots. (Deep, BTW, unless you hit water!) Asparagus thrives near
seashores, just beyond the sand, because it can stand a bit of salt.
(Beets, too.) Asparagus will stand a lot of things, but not heavy
weed competition, too much heat and bugs, and being drowned. Mulch
will help with 3 out of 4; so do try it. :-)
