I've no idea if the M34F supports Shaping, but as those are my stats, the
first state relates to the remote modem, so in that specific instance
above, the USR had Shaping enabled and the M34F didn't.  As those three
characteristics vary according to the negotiation, it appears that the
modems decide what's needed, and sort themselves out as best they can.

Whether or not it actually works as designed is another matter entirely.  :)
