I thought this might be of interest to people in the Denver and
connecting areas. Looks like a good program for educators in
understanding Sec. 504 and ADA compliance. Jim

This is a user-friendly, practical workshop designed to assist district 504
Coordinators, principals and educators "on the front line" with the nuts and
bolts of civil rights compliance under both the Voc. Rehab. Act, Section 504,
and the ADA, Title II.
The workshop will address;
* a brief overview of Section 504 and Title II as each pertains to the civil
rights of individuals with disabilities: student issues, community issues,
employment issues,
* specific information focusing on student issues, the similarities and
differences between civil rights mandates and special education requirements,
* "how to's" to meet district-level requirements: conducting the required
self-evaluation, creating the required compliance plan, creating a
district-wide process for consistent documentation of needs, insuring ongoing
support for change
* "how to's" at the building level: preparing faculty for their role, staff
development approaches, implementing an internal process for documentation of
student needs, alternative approaches for handling conflict regarding
provision of accommodations.
Participants will receive, free of charge, a copy of the newest support
materials available to assist with 504/Title II compliance:
* A Self-Evaluation Questionnaire for Schools: Instructional Accommodations
for Students with Disabilities
* A Self-Evaluation Questionnaire for Schools: Effective Communication
* Now, if truth be told, Compliance = Documentation
Participants will benefit from access to and should make an attempt to secure
an individual copy of the Compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act
manual available at 1-800-949-4232. This workshop will supplement the
information contained in these guidelines...
The workshop is conducted by Patricia S. Tomlan, Ph.D., Director of PST
