Hi David!
Like you, I enjoyed the article on Tweeking that Will sent us.
-> Thanks for the "reprint". Some interesting things there. I was
-> amused that despite his not taking "system break-in" CD's seriously,
-> he IS a believer in green markers. He doesn't seem quite as far into
-> outer space as some of the audiophile community, but really, has
-> anyone EVER pretended to do a double-blind test with green markers?
Break-in CDs should be taken seriously?? You believe this??!! A good
disk of test tones, sweeps and stuff is quite nice to help set things
up without a mountain of test equipment, but I "break" in my stuff with
music I'm working on. While there is some merit in the "theory" of the
green markers reducing specular reflections being reduced, I don't buy
the total theory.
-> Listening to the music/instead of the equipment is my preference,
-> and it's probably the amount I've spent on software that's kept me
-> from spending real audiophile money on the hardware side of things.
Music is what it's all about to me.. OK, sound effects, too but I'm a
musiccian by ear, by mind and by listeni preferences, wanting to hear
the sound to sound like it it was originally made.
If you trust your ears, and you take material with you to listen to
that you know well, then you can make good judgement calls on what
speakers or other equiip hardware sounds like. Us ears can
help you get incredible deals in equipment that sounds great.
