subject: IBM takes shot at games

Apparently in the spirit of their "Let's get OS/2 into the business
world and forget all those non-business-type-people" agenda, IBM has
decided to gut the OS/2 Entertainment Tools, chuck the joystick driver,
and give games developers a good kick in the head.

You can check out the whole article at the excellent OS/2 eZine:

http://www.haligonian.com/os2/

but here is the important excerpt (sorry for stealing this)

___-------------------------------------------------------------------

In keeping with IBM's current OS/2 strategy to focus primarily on
the business user, the IBM Developer's Toolkit for OS/2 Warp Version 4
has been slightly modified. Modifications include the following:

The Entertainment tools heading has been removed from the
Developer Connection Catalog. The following tools,
formerly in the Entertainment section, have been moved to new
        locations in the toolkit:

        - FSDIVE and MIDI support: Multimedia Directory
        - MIDI, Direct Audio, Beehive, and FS Dive samples: Multimedia
                Samples
        - Headers and Bindings for MIDI and DIVE support: System Headers
                and Bindings

The following Entertainment tools have been removed altogether
because they are used exclusively for the development of games
and are unrelated to the development of business
        applications:

        - Joystick device driver
        - Robot sample
        - BRender
        - tictactoe

        (signed) DevCon Support

___---------------------------------------------------------------------

The joystick device driver is still available pretty widely, get it
while you can. I don't know about the legality of distributing it with
commercial apps, but I'm probably going to find out. This is the
real loss. BRender is still available from Argonaut I assume.
TicTacToe kills the network stuff they included, but it was pretty
lightweight anyway. I can't find any robot sample, so I don't know what
that's about.

Thanks IBM, great job, but us developers aren't going to step up and let
you shoot off any of our toes once all yours are gone. Now back to
developing my game - WITHOUT much help from IBM.

Rob.
