* Crossposted in area ZONE3_SYSOP, FN_SYSOP, NET_DEV Hello folks. Ted
Harrison, via some obscure logic that of course has a P4 interpretation
(you can make P4 say ANYTHING if you put your mind to it!), has granted me
access to echomail for ONE DAY ONLY! If you (David More) wish to raise a
PC against Ted, please get it in in the next 24 hours, because otherwise
you'll have lost your chance, Ted is leaving the nodelist this week.
Anyway, what all this means is - DON'T REPLY TO ME HERE, I WON'T GET IT!
You can instead reply via internet to avon{at}rosebay.matra.com.au, or you can
join the UUCP based network I have set up, details of which have been
posted by others in various echos already.
BTW, it was my original intention to gate internet echos into the new
network, but since then someone else (Jeff Green) has started gating
fidonet echos into the new network, so you may see me if you get those
echos. Currently only AUST_AVTECH is being gated. I (or someone else) may
start gating real internet echos in due course, but I'm not up to that yet.
BTW, some people have this obscure interpretation of P4 (like I said, you
can prove anything with P4 [just like cricket]) that any messages with
"PE>" in the quotes are messages from me and thus PC-able.
This should
prove really interesting, because then no-one is allowed to gate any
internet echos, just in case I turn up in one of them and start posting.
Yeah, right.
Anyway, the UUCP-based network is designed to not have any political
infrastructure at all, just like Fidonet was meant to be - simply a matter
of consenting nodes exchanging mail.
I'll post the "state of the net" message which I posted recently.
Ok, first of all, many thanks to those who have provided me with help +
entertainment over the last x years - you weren't all fascists!!! Also
thanks for those who actually have a concept of fair play.
David Nugent has been copping a fair bit of unwarranted abuse, because of
me, which I think is unwarranted, so just let me make this clear:
1. I think David Nugent is a lousy FTSC Chair - however, opinions on this
matter are completely irrelevant as far as my denodelisting is concerned.
2. I think David Nugent is a good moderator - however, opinions on this
matter are completely irrelevant as far as my denodelisting is concerned.
How he chooses to moderate, or not moderate, is not relevant to P4.
3. *IF* David Nugent has a case to answer, it's the glacial movement of my
appeal (against the denodelisting) and my original counter-PC against David
More for being too easily annoyed. Both things are well over 30 days old.
The only person I am blaming in this matter is David More, who has some
cute idea that as N711 NC, he was responsible for making sure that we were
the ideal Brady Bunch. This guy is really power mad. You don't need to
keep looking at Hitler and wondering how anyone can do things like that,
and being really glad it didn't happen in your neighbourhood - it DOES.
Shit, I know spoilt only-child brats who have more self-control than this
prat.
The way hobbyist systems are designed is that you vote with your feet -
noone forces you to carry echomail against your will. That is absolutely
firmly what the new network is designed to do, as well as fulfilling the
long-standing goal of much of NET_DEV to move to the RFC standards instead
of the kludged-to-buggery fidonet ones. You will be able to transfer
newsgroups to your friends without any political interference from Mr Brady
(aka Dr Frankenstein).
Anyway, I hope to see all the friends I made in fidonet moving to the UUCP
network, it's a hell of a lot more interesting trying to solve the various
technical issues in doing this than it is to debate P4 interpretation.
BTW, I'm still after a lot of technical input.
It HAS been a lot of fun, and I LOVE hobbyists exchanging mail (unlike the
internet!), so I have not "defected to the internet" as some have
suggested, all I have done is use their technical standards wherever
humanly possible, and extended them where required. Oh, and abuse is not
encouraged in the new network as some have suggested - it is neither
encouraged nor discouraged - it is irrelevant, you decide how your own
echos are conducted.
BTW, some have also said that because I told other people I didn't intend
to return to fidonet, that my appeal + counter-PC didn't need to be heard.
I have made no official statement to any *C to that effect, and in fact
have been waiting to see what the result is, and have been doing ZMH for
all this time (mainly because it's taken this long to set up the new
system, and I'm still waiting for the MSDOS UUCPers to get their systems up
so that they can move across). So don't let them get away with that
excuse!
See the next message for "state of the net". Goodbye, and hope
to see you soon! BFN. Paul.
