BB> You say it doesn't work very well, but it is still a good scanner. I
BB> think that's a contradiction in terms. The scanner may have only
BB> been designed to work VHF low/high and not have UHF capabilities, even
BB> though it uses crystals. Have you opened it to look inside? I had an
 BB> RCA scanner which
BB> used to have switches inside that would enable it to get
BB> VHF-lo/VHF-hi. You had to change the switch to the appropriate band. I
BB> cannot remember if it also got UHF or not, but it seems to me it did.
BB> But it's been a loooong time ago.
I have looked inside, and it DOES have UHF capability. In fact, the Bearcat
crystals I have in it now were working at one time, but now for some reason
it is not. I am wondering if maybe the UHF local oscillator has gone out.
BB> By any chance are you using Radio Shack crystals in it? The BearCats
BB> must have Bearcat crystals to work well. Radio Shack used to carry both
BB> kinds at one time, Bearcat, and Everyones crystals. I can't tell you
 BB> how many times I
BB> was asked and told that the regular Radio Shack crystals will not work
 BB> in Bearcats.
I found out the HARD way about Rat Trap crystals! So I have used the Bearcat
crystals. Although I have found a FEW RS crystals that would work on VHF as
they were of the right fundamental frequency.
That just reminded me of something else... maybe the reference crystal has
gone out?
BB> Sorry I can't help you with the manual for it.
That's ok.. I'm sure I will find one eventually.
