subject: Wiring problem

EH>You're not doing anything wrong! That's the nature of the beast. If
EH>one source is supplying power to any given bulb filament, you can't
EH>BLINK it from another source. Turn signal switches are fairly complex
EH>and there's no immediately SIMPLE way of overcoming this.
Hello Elvis,
Many of the autos from the 50's 60's and 70's that had a single tail
light used a dual filament bulb for all three (tail-brake-and signal
light) functions. I understand what your saying about the complexity
but it is possible to wire it for from using only a dual filament
bulb. Obviously my wiring is not set up for using those applied
functions.
My manual is no help for wiring diagrams for good explanations. For
now I will use a separate light for the directionals until I can
determine the proper method of wiring a dual filament to carry the
three functions.
EH>The most obvious way is to provide a separate single filament bulb
EH>snuggled into the lamp-housing and connected only to the turn signal
EH>circuit. Thus you have one circuit for tail lights controlled by the
EH>headlight switch. Nother circuit for brake lights controlled by the
EH>brakelight switch, and yet another discrete circuit on each side
EH>controled by each position of the turn signal switch. (That's actually
EH>the way most modern cars do it. Saves unbelievable complexity in the
EH>various controlling switches.
Good solutions but not what I had in mind but may end up applying
them.
EH>BTW, you may hear other ideas, some of which may actually work, but take
EH>my word for it, I've been doing things of this nature for nearly fifty
EH>years, and the above is the PRACTICAL way of solving the problem.
AAHHH showing your age Elvis with this statement. :-)
Thanks for your thoughts
Sincerely David
