I know TWO ways!; In DOS, go to TM dir and run TMINST.exe (as you
pointed out already). You can DnArrow to the entry on the menu
for "sound", "music", or whatever it actually says and select your
options there (assuming you're running a registered ver. on all this) -
just don't forget to select the "S)ave or W)rite changes to disk" as
you "back out" of TMINST (use the ESCape key, once you make your
selections).
The only other way I know is to:
1) Start TeleMate
2) Press "Alt-O"
3) Select the "General" option (1st one, at the top)
4) Make your selection in the lower right corner (To shut off
the music, just enter a "0" in the "A)larm Sound" box.) and press
5) The "Options" dialog box will re-appear and you should select the
LAST (bottom) entry ("S)ave Options"), to have TM write them to your
permanent configuration file (you CAN save to an alternate cfg. file, if
you wish).
Telemate *should* "power-up" the next time with no music and, in fact,
your changes (disabling the sound) *should* take effect immediately.
It pays to do this ("Saving Options") whenever you make some changes
you like or that solve a problem you might have. Whether you make
"backups" of the config file is up to you and I guess you'd have do
THAT manually. Of course, you can always restore the original ("outta-
the-box") settings using method one, above (TMINST.exe).
