Hi Ron,
Since the time I last wrote to you on this issue, it has come to my
attention that apparently Gov. Pete Wilson has suggested something about
this. (I was even at a Web page last week from the Calif. State Board of
Education. This topic is so new that they have some links to info about
it, but if you follow the links, they say "info not yet available, coming
soon...)
Having only given passive attention to this topic when it has crossed my
path (I have not sought it out or gone much out of my way looking for it),
this is what I gather is going on:
The governor has made some large lump sum ( was it $50 million? ) available
to schools. The schools can apply for a portion of this money, but it can
ONLY be used to lower class size. I read something about some schools trying
to decide whether the additional money necessary for hiring more teachers to
lower the class size was going to fall within the available funding.
As I hear more about this, I'll try to let you know.
Sheila
