->  I totally ignore the market values around your area but let me tell you

 Easy answer to that one. Most devices are designed and built to be
Buy/Use/Throwaway. As such there are Little spare parts run off i nthe
initial production run. As they break down and those parts are called
for the much smaller of batches bought equated to a much higher cost
part. And as you saw perhaps even more then the Replacement cost of the
device.                    
It is the price of so called "Progress" we have made in peoples Standard
of Living.
Rembember when only the RICH could afford a Microwave oven. OR going
further back a Television??
