Wouldn't suprrise me the early apple dot matrix printers (image writer)
firmware was epsom compatible but had a serial interface.

Ihe laser writer was internally a HP laserjet II engine with an Apple
manufacured (postscript) processor board

So it'd be no surprise to me if apple was sourcing inkejet mechanisms from
Canon.
