Just thought I'd give my 2cents worth on the cps rate issue, but
I noticed that when calling ZyXel's tech support BBS (the only place
I've called long distance in a LONG while) I typically get long retrains,
incredible delays, and sometimes a droppd carrier, when I call using
my Elite.
If I call using my U1496E+, there are no retrains or delays at all. I
tried it many times, and its the modem. The U1496 just handles the
noise like a champ, while the Elite just sucks with poor line conditions!
My Elite was also locked up today - DTR and DSR both lit (my DSR follows
carrier), and CD was lit, and it said it was OFF HOOK!! A carrier off-hook?
I picked up the phone .. dial tone. Hit the Data/Voice button, nothin'.
I had to power off the modem!!
It also takes 3 rings to answer (first ring I get CND message, but the modem
doesn't ring, or display RING). Second ring, the modem displays RING,
and it audibly rings, but doesn't answer. Third ring is like the second,
except the modem answers it too. I have it set to auto answer on first
ring ATS0=1.
I've also lost the auto-answer setting once, and I use &D3, which should
stop me from ever losing a setting - the modem itself does not recieve
settings other than ATDT from the computer (old Unix system - it dials
out to pick up email, and lets others dial in).
Has anyone else been having similar problems? Particularly the RING?
I'm about ready to send my Elite back, as far as I'm concerned, its
broke and under warranty, and if they won't give me one that works, I
have alot of business to take elsewhere!
