What do you mean "better connects"?  Higher speed or better data throughput?  
I use OS/2 and there is a dialer which goes by the name of In-joy which has a 
"speed" bar on the bottom. My average is around 3600 when downloading web 
pages.
If you mean, what is your connect speed?  Try adding atw1 if your modem 
supports that feature.
