BS> AB> Running Telemate through DOS, it really screams! Although I
BS> AB> like the way Telemate is set up in Windows, but if I can't get
BS> AB> connects at 57600 (?) like I do in DOS, have the screen scroll
BS> AB> smoothly, then I'll stick with 4.2.
BS> As far as I know, the fastest modem on the market is a 28800 BPS...
BS>there may be something around 30000 BPS, but not much more. 57600 is
BS>out of the question. If you modem is reporting that, then you have
BS>it set to report the locked rate (COM port speed) rather then the
BS>connect rate of your modem. Eg, I have my port locked at 19200 BPS,
BS>but my modem connects at 14400 BPS. So I would look at your actual
BS>connect speed before making any decisions. :)
Yes The difference is in the connection type. If you have a
compression/error-correction protocal active you will get a higher
connect rate. Nobody said they had a 57600 modem, just that was the
connection reported. BTW, that is generally taken (at least in my case)
from the speed reported by the BBS. i.e. 14400 / 57600 ARQ MNP? ad
etc. This gives you the actual connect rate then the ..hmm.. virtual?
connect rate. There is a big speed dif. between 14400/14400 and
14400/57600!! In running TMW I get even higher connect and cps
ratings than through dos, so I think his problem was simply that he was
using the standard windows comm driver, which for some reason has
problems with speeds over 19200. If you have a 16550 FIFO you
definitely want to find a new comm driver for windows!
