] PE>> I don't think this is correct. Thousands of people use UUCP
PE>> every day, just like fido.

BL> if your ISR uses a queer compress,

PE> It is compressed using "unix compress"

I rest my case... a queer compress if I ever saw one.

PE> I think there's an "rbatch" or something at the beginning that
PE> needs to be stripped off before giving it to compress.

  Queer as a clockwork orange...

PE>> You don't need any unix software to do UUCP.

BL> Don't you? Every explanation I've read needs a little batch
BL> file thingie or even a massive C file you have to send.

PE> You need to set up a "chat script", which is nothing to do with
 PE> unix.

A "chat script" written in C...?

BL> If you do it this way, it'll die (IMO). Inertia alone will
BL> leave people where they are, and to continue talking to them,
BL> I'll have to go where they are. You need a crossover period
BL> when both technologies run side-by-side, the way it's always
 BL> done.

PE> If it comes to the crunch, they will die, and you'll only see
PE> me if you collect comp.lang.c etc.

You're a lovely fella, Paul, but the idea of talking to you alone
makes we run screaming around the backyard. I suppose I could try
electroconvulsive therapy...

BL> It would be better if there was just the one AVT using
BL> different names on Fido and the Net.

PE> This is fine, but I have no intention of doing it MYSELF so
 PE> offer no guarantees.

I fear we are coming to the end of a beautiful friendship...

BL> Whatever... it still comes to fairly negligible charges for
BL> mail when it's only $0.60 an hour.

PE> $3/hour with my current account + usage.

Yeah... that's why I've avoided the Internet so far. The PCUG offers
30 hours a month for $20 plus a one-off $40 registration and slip/ppp
(whatever that means) which is my $0.66 an hour, but it's better seen
as $240 a year, which is about three-times what I spend on the BBS
telephones at present. The idea of spending an hour a day surfing the
cat to get my money's worth makes me run screaming around the back
yard (even after the electoconvulsive therapy, which does tend to slow
me down a bit... and permanently, if they turn to volts up too high).

PE> I told you some time ago I was going to the internet. If you
PE> want to know where the Sigma guy is, he'll be on the internet,
PE> and you can either join the internet via an ISP yourself, and
PE> collect comp.lang.c, which is probably the only place I'll be,
PE> or you can pick up a couple of local (possibly dead) newsgroups
PE> if you poll me directly.

Yeah, well... I'll have to make other arrangements, by the sound of
it.

Regards,
Bob
