He was Joe Walsh's replacement, I believe.
Some of Bolin's stuff was really good, IMO. My faves are
his playing on Billy Cobham's _Spectrum_ album and the
playing he did on Alphonse Mouzon's solo album. They were
both famous fusion drummers and it was a suprise when
they chose Bolin rather than a jazz or fusion player.
Bolin carries it off well in both cases. Like Paul Kossof
from Free he had an unerring instinct for tastefulness
and played the instrument lyrically, infusing his
phrasings with something very much like vocal inflection.
MR> It was a big shame to have such talent as Tommy's fade away.
Well, unfortunatelly, like Kossof he also had a fondness
for heroin, though Kossof's official cause of death was
falling asleep on an airplane.
ObProg: Mike Oldfield's main guitar influence was Paul
Kossof. Weird but true.
Cheers,
Kenneth
