Hello Alex. 31 May 06 23:06, you wrote to me: MV>> What is happening now in R50 is nothing new, it is just history MV>> repeating. It has happened in Z1 and it has happened in Western MV>> Europe. And now it is happening in R50. It seems you, our friends MV>> in Eastern Europe, have been in isolation and you haven't noticed MV>> what happened to others though. You seem to think what is MV>> happening in your region is unique.... AS> Returning to the others experience. FidoNet failed. It is plain AS> obvious. FidoNet a failure? On the contrary, it was a glaring success, it exceeded all expectations. What was initially designed to cover a couple of dozen grew out to a network with 35.000 nodes, an estimated 150.000 points and maybe half a million users! That certainly spells success. But.. all good things come to an end. Even the best of things are replaced by something better. The Audio Cassette was a succes but at some point it was overtalen end replaced by the Compact Disc. And the CD is now being replaced by the DVD. The steam engine was a success but at some point it was replaced by the internal combustion engine. For aviation, the piston engine was a success, but at some point it was replaced by the gas turbine. That is the fate of all things, including the successfull ones. At some point they are replaced by something new. The old things go to the museum. FidoNet is now a museum piece. AS> So why, the hell, those poor odds that still are there so strongly AS> resist to anything new ? Because you don't mess with museum pieces. You keep them as they are as best as you can. AS> To start with Z7, for example. That is not new. As you said; it has been there for many years. And contrary to FidoNet as a whole, zone 7 was *not* a success.
