VF> Media hype. More people are suffering from Hepititis B or C
VF> than AIDS, but neither gets the coverage it should. Hep "B" is
VF> 200 times more virulant than AIDS is. The number of
VF> AIDS-attributable deaths in Canada last year was - to put it
VF> bluntly - only a miniscule handful compared to the thousands
VF> that died because of Cancer. Cancer is not preventable, AIDS
VF> is. Yet which gets the headlines? And why?
You are right but surely a preventable disease should get the
coverage to encourage those at risk to _take_ preventive measures.
Cancer does not offer such easy solutions. I think Laurie is right
to equate AIDS with tuberculosis -- both result in the deaths of
people in what should be their prime. Sadly, tuberculosis seems to
be making a comeback in a form more difficult to treat.
