DE>-> KF>does the u.s. have a single transcontinental (east coast to west
DE>-> coast) KF>railway? by that i mean owned by one company?
DE>->
DE>-> See above..... maybe someone else can help there.
DE>no one railroad has coast to coast ownership, but BNSF runs the QNYLA
DE>and the QLANY in conjunction with Conrail, this technically falls into
DE>the category of a "transcontinental" train, and I think Amtrak's Sunset
DE>Limited is still running from LA to Jacksonville...I think that may be
DE>wrong...something like that, I know they were talking about trashing it
DE>beyond New Orleans...
Sort of what I thought. Amtrak is quick on the trigger to eliminate
routes. They have temporarily suspended their shutdown of their St
Louis to San Antonio route. The state of Texas loaned Amtrak several
million to keep things running six more months. I don't understand, the
Texas routes make money. During holiday periods they have to add
several cars to keep up with demand.
