Well, as you may already know, I live only a few miles south of the
cancer
zone" just south of Baton Rouge, Louisiana where the local people HAVE been
greatly concerned with pollution by the big companies operating there and
have forced politicians to some pretty costly reforms though some might avow
that it isn't going far enough.
And, (grin), btw, Plato in the Gorgias DOES have Socrates warn his deadly
opponent, Callicrates, that in his LOVE for the demos he MIGHT be forgetting
that enough of these "rabble" might get together and "outdraw" a clever, well
educated sophisticate like Callicrates who treats philosophy as "nice" for
young men to enjoy but not useful for the "men of affairs" who must learn how
to best their opponents in the marketplace!! The "rabble" can also overpower
the ship's captain and then be governed by their "common sense" in dealing
with a storm at sea rather than relying on the years of accumulated skill of
the captain. Sort of like who do you take seriously about "fixing" Social
Security, Pat Moynihan or the the busy citizen plying his trade. I hurry to
implore you not to take this as a political statement!!
Sincerely,
Frank
