G'day Bob,
Replying to a message of Bob Lawrence to Jeff Green on 17/05/97:
BL> I thought you were swearing at me for a moment... FXUUCICO to you, too!
Yeah, I wouldn't want to spell that name while drunk :-)
BL> AND WHAT DOES THIS MEAN...?
BL> ... # Your machine name, this is how your host is identified by your
BL> ... # neighbours must match their 'systems' (or equivalent) entries.
BL> ... # Mandatory entry.
BL> ... uucpname : laser
BL> What name do I use for Paul? sigma would be more appropriate than
BL> laser :-) or is that *my* name that Paul has given me?
Cut and paste the following to a file named fxuucp.cfg in the directory
where you have unzipped fxuucico.
>>
uucpname: Ubobl
device: com1
speed: 57600
spool: c:\fxuucico\spool
fx.rSystem: scorpio Any g "" 9436-1785 CONNECT \m\c in:--in:
Ubobl word: password
>>
Change the device name to whatever com port your modem is on.
Change the speed to whatever you like. I use 57600 as that seems to work fine.
Change the spool directory to wherever you like.
Change the the word 'password' to your real password.
This is the simplest form of the cfg file. It's the equivalent of what I
used for ages until I started calling two UUCP feeds.
BL> And what software do I use to dial Paul up and log on? FX-UUCICO
BL> does not seem to have a dialling directory, telephone numbers and
BL> that. If everything else fails I can write one in VB, but what logon
BL> protocol does UUCP use?
To dial Paul, change to the directory that you have fxuucico residing in and type:
uucico -s scorpio
This will cause fxuucico to call scorpio (Paul's system) and automatically
log you in. That takes care of connecting to Paul's system. Now...
...what mail reader are you planning on using?
Regards...Jeff (jeff{at}matra.com.au)
