>>> Frank Masingill on Reflections on modernity
FM> "Old" myths can become untrue as literal or historical but I see no

What looks like a fairy tale, is often expression of psychology, sociology,
or even technology.
FM> To say that the world is headed for trouble and that you know
FM> why is tantalizing. Why now SAY why and how you are able to prophesy
FM> this? What are these events that will "get worse?"
Green house. The polar ice cap is poised to slip into the ocean. Warming
trends, dry out forests, causing uncontrolled fires to rage unabated for long
periods of time, in addition to the usual burning of forests. So green house
drying in accelerating release of CO2. Additionally, there is little hope of
thwarting the logging companies greed. They are just too politically strong,
even here in the US. Green house excesses will continue to acerbate erratic
weather. This year of storms and floods is part of the battering that we are
creating for ourselves.
Overpopulation and decline of world food reserves. World wide depletion of
fish stocks. Accelerating soil erosion from man made activities. Increasing
difficulty of expanding populations to obtain sufficient amounts of potable
water. This is not prophesy, this is common sense extrapolation of existing
trends, some irreversible, others requiring decades or more for recovery even
assuming that human activity is properly curtailed. Here's a prophesy: we
will be old and gone when it gets ugly. I sure hope so, pity our youngsters.
