-> Lighter weight, more power and better high altitude performance.
And, where ag planes are concerned the difference between HAVING an
engine that'll make the required power or no engine at all.
R-985's just don't cut it anymore. Four hundred fifty horse just won't
haul the chemical. P&W 1830's are TOO dang heavy, too expensive to
overhaul and by and large NOT easily available IF they'll stay together
for a whole spray season and not crash you in a cotton field.
PT-6's are light, reliable, STRONG muthas, and run in the dirt like they
are in dusters just a write off.
I can hardly wait to see them put one on the Schwietzer biplane. We
already call it "Sneaky Pete" because it can slip up on you, and the
IO-540 Lyc is way far outclassed.
