| subject: | DOS LFNs? |
* An ongoing debate between Ken Hrynchuk and Ben Ritchey rages on ...

The one I used to use (with a successful restore of the LFN backup files on at
least one occasion):
DOSLFN16.ZIP 34,019 02-28-99 04:13:18
DOSLFNBK v1.5: Win95 Long Filename Backup. Backs up Win95
long filenames from DOS or a DOS window. This allows you
to use older DOS-based backup and archive programs with
Win95. It also makes it possible to recover from a
catastrophic disk crash without re-installing Win95 first.
Runs in DOS or Win95. Version 1.5 removes need for
LOCK/UNLOCK, runs in less memory and is more stable, easier
to use. FREEware!
though I can't say it's the best, it does work, where the Win95 LFNBk utility
did NOT (but don't remember why ). Note that this is v1.6 (FREEware) and
the latest v2.2 is now shareware (untested by me, file DOSLFN22.ZIP).
