subject: pussy willow shoots?

CG>I read recently, in email or printed magazine, about pussy-
CG>willows. I recall that one soaked the twigs in water overnight,
CG>or for several days, to simulate the spring rains. This causes
CG>the sap to get ready.
CG>I have, accordingly, placed my three rather dry sticks (99c
CG>each) in the bathtub for the day. I plan to remove them tonight
CG>and chop them into four-inch segments, smear with rooting
CG>compound and place in sand and vermiculite.
CG>Suppose these things actually shoot. Will I end up with a small
CG>forest of willow trees in my apartment, or am i looking forward
CG>only to one season of lush greenness-on-a-stick?
DB} I took 3 clippings and just put them in some dirt with some
Root-tone. After about 2-3 weeks I now have 3 little bushes started.
They will stay as small or as large as I want them to be. Since you live
in an apartment, you can just keep them trimmed to the size you want.
Just the other day I got a LARGE branch off a pussy willow bush and am
starting another one for my daughter. This one will not start out as a
small bush since the start I got was large. It will be a large bush.
Just keep it damp and not WET so the Root-tone can stay intact and not
be washed off. Put the root-tone on the cutting tapping off the excess and
then some onto the dirt before you put your plant in it. This is what I
do for ALL my trimmings/clippings that I or anyone wants a start from.
Hope this helps you as I have been doing this for many, many years and
never had a failure yet. I also started a snowball and a lilac bush
this same way. I was told that it wouldn't work but it did.
Unfortunately one sever winter killed it as I hadn't given it a healthy
enough start before I didn't protect it from the cold. It was however
started to bloom both plants in one bush.
